KORAKRIT ARUNANONDCHAI Love After Death

Korakrit Arunanondchai's 'Love After Death' is an autofiction blending video footage, performances, and scenes from a film shot in an abandoned cinema in Lopburi, Thailand. The work draws from conceptual remnants of his previous moving images. Through an arduous editorial process, these components are coupled with Arunanondchai’s fictive narration, loosely based on the Lanna legend of the Sihuhata—a mythical creature worshipped for its ability to consume coal and defecate gold. The exhibition explores the interchangeability between artists and spirit mediums, following the tradition of 'ghost cinema.' It also experiments with shaping the exhibition space as an animistic body, capable of digesting light, heat, memories, and feelings to transform them into a collective experience. Conjuring a repertoire of metaphoric symbols, from stuffed animals to bodies in slumber, 'Love After Death' represents the artist’s ongoing quest to find the sacred within the profane.
